Chikako Hashimoto is an experienced attorney with more than 25 years of career in trademark prosecution, trademark enforcement, anti-counterfeiting and unfair competition matters. She obtained BA in Law from Keio University. After qualified as a Japanese Patent and Trademark Attorney in 1987, she joined one of the most prestigious IP boutique in Tokyo and worked as a partner since 2001. She was admitted as a qualified IP litigator in 2004. She also worked at the Tokyo office of an international law firm from 2014 to 2020.
Chikako has a variety of experience in handling trademark portfolio of Japanese and Western large companies in wide range of industries such as food and beverage, pharmaceutical, automobile, apparel, electronics, finance, entertainment, etc. She won many important cases at the IP High Court some of which were reported in the newspapers. She has also been handling a large number of disputes, e.g., oppositions, invalidity and cancellation actions, and infringement cases.
She has been playing a role of an external advisor of the Tokyo Customs for more than six years and handling border seizure cases by herself.
She is a member of LES Japan (Vice President) and LES Asia Pacific (Vice Chair), Japan Trademark Association (Board Member), Japan Patent Attorneys Association, and AIPPI.
She is a frequent Lecturer at various universities and organizations, such as Tokyo University of Science (2013-2016), Kanazawa Institute of Technology (2008-2014 ), Aoyama Gakuin University, Graduate school, Law Research, Business major course (2006-2014 ), ETH (2008), Japan Patent Attorneys Association (Lectures for members and training for new members).
